What is Counter Strike?

by Daniel Asante

Counter-Strike is a multiplayer first-person shooter that is available for a range of gaming platforms. It was first released back in November 2000 and has since had several sequels and additional games released to the public.

For the main series, gamers should focus on the following: Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, Counter-Strike: Source, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. As mentioned, there are a few spin-offs, including Counter-Strike Online, which is a free-to-play game that was aimed specifically at Counter-Strike’s Asian audiences.

The first game in the series is not readily available by itself anymore but can still be purchased as a part of many bundles offered by Steam on their store. For example, you can currently buy Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero for just over £7 at the time of writing this piece.

After purchasing and running Counter-Strike on your computer or games console, the next step is for you to buy different inventory items. These may include weapons, gloves, and other equipment.

This does sometimes mean that you fall into the micropayment trap. Many players who don’t want to drop cash typically turn to Counter-Strike: WaRzOnE. And yes, it is stylised like that.

What is Counter-Strike: WaRzOnE?

Counter-Strike: WaRzOnE is the pirated version of Counter-Strike. You can download it free and install it on your device like the regular game. You don’t need to buy it, but it is technically illegal because it’s a cracked copy of the original version.

There are a few differences between the two.

Counter-Strike, being the original game, was developed and maintained by Valve. Everything in Valve’s version of the game is locked and you need to buy them first. On the other hand, Counter-Strike: WaRzOnE was created by a small group of Counter-Strike fans back in 2020, who also run a Discord server for the game. The team have no funding, and only gain revenue through advertising and donations. This does mean that the game isn’t updated by Valve or any of their team, and as such, is completely independent.

As well as the obvious price difference, Counter-Strike: WaRzOnE will allow you to play on any server. You can break the rules of the official game by creating and playing matches in private serves where you can pretty much do what you want. It’s a world where gamers can be hackers and make their own servers. But it’s a world with no connection to any official support from the original game developers.

Is Counter-Strike: WaRzOnE a virus?

A lot of individuals new to cracked or modified games think that these kinds of downloads are full of viruses. From their website, the Counter-Strike: WaRzOnE game is not a virus and should not carry any viruses or programs that could harm your computer/console.

That is not to say that downloading the game isn’t a risk. As with any download from the internet, there is always a risk. But, if you have Antivirus software, you should be fine.

Here are the system Requirements for Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: WaRzOnE:

Counter-Strike is not a very graphic-heavy game and doesn’t require high-end hardware to play. Some basic gaming hardware should run your copy of the game smoothly. You’ll need these specs, at least:

  • CPU Speed: 1.7 GHz
  • RAM: 512 MB
  • Pixel Shader: 1.4
